Pre-conference Info
$175 - YMCA Pre-conference certification ONLY (does not include main conference)
Cost includes:
2 nights lodging and six meals. Registration for certification, lodging, meals and snacks beginning with dinner Sunday and continuing through lunch on Tuesday are all included in the rates. Both courses will begin on Sunday and will conclude Tuesday morning just prior to the main conference.
What to Bring:
Proof of prerequisite certification and manuals.
Manuals: YMCA Day Camp Fundamentals (available for free download from the Programs/Camping page on www.ymcaexchange.org) and Day Camp from Day One, (ACA) $32.95 from the Y-Program Store or www.acacamps.org.
On the registration form, make sure that you:
• Include a place for the executive director/ YMCA supervisor’s signature of approval. This approval is a prerequisite for all YMCA of the USA certification courses except Lifeguard, Aquatic Safety Assistant, Principles of YMCA Aquatic Leadership, and POOL.
• Inform participants that they will have to provide the trainer with proof that they have completed the prerequisite certification courses. Proof should be in the form of current certification cards, certificates, or official transcript and must be presented at the training.
Preconference Choices:
Both choices begin on Sunday at Noon and End on Tuesday. The fee will also include meals and lodging.
Strategic Planning
Number of hours: 16
This module provides an introduction to the strategic planning process and the fundamentals of good
planning. The techniques learned are applicable to organizations, units, or teams of any size. Through
this course, participants will learn how strategic planning is different from other types of planning.
They will gain insight into and appreciation of this discipline by applying the steps of the strategic
planning process to their personal lives; a YMCA case study; and a back-home group, team, or unit of
which they are members.
YMCA Day Camp Director

This course is designed for staff who direct YMCA day camp programs. Topics include the unique benefits of YMCA day camping, character development, setting goals and objectives, American Camping Association standards and YMCA Day Camping guidelines, the developmental needs of children, program. planning and activity ideas, budgeting, marketing, staffing, site development, promotion/membership, safety and risk management, quality emphasis, teen programs, and program evaluation. A training design for use with local day camp staff is provided, as well as many practical, "use-at- home" handouts. Ideal for first-time day camp and camp directors, or those with one to two years of programming experience. Preconference Fee: $150
